  • Rounding: Rounding numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, etc.

  • Addition and Subtraction: Mastery of multi-digit addition and subtraction, including problems that require regrouping.

  • Multiplication and Division: Understanding multiplication and division facts through 12x12, multiplying a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number, and dividing by a 1-digit divisor. Introduction to concepts of factors, multiples, and prime numbers.

2. Fractions

  • Understanding Fractions: Equivalence, comparing and ordering fractions, understanding mixed numbers.

  • Operations with Fractions: Introduction to adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators, multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

3. Measurement and Data

  • Measurement: Using standard units of measure (customary and metric), understanding concepts of perimeter and area.

  • Data Interpretation: Creating and interpreting line plots, bar graphs, and pictographs. Introduction to the concept of angles and measuring them with a protractor.

4. Geometry

  • Shapes and Properties: Understanding and classifying geometric figures (parallelograms, trapezoids, right triangles, etc.), understanding lines of symmetry.

  • Problem Solving with Geometry: Solving real-world problems involving perimeter and area of figures.

5. Algebraic Thinking

  • Patterns and Relationships: Identifying and extending patterns, understanding and applying the properties of operations to solve problems.

  • Equations and Variables: Introduction to simple equations and variables to represent numbers in equations or word problems.

  • Critical Thinking: Applying math skills to solve multi-step word problems.
