    • Counting and Cardinality: Count to 120, starting from any number. Practice counting forward and backward.

    • Place Value: Understand the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Compare two-digit numbers.

    • Addition and Subtraction Basics: Use objects, drawings, and equations to add and subtract within 50. Introduce strategies such as decomposing numbers, borrowing and carrying over, and using the relationship between addition and subtraction.

  • Shapes and Their Attributes: Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres). Understand the differences between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation).

    • Telling Time: Tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks.

    • Data Representation: Organize, represent, and interpret basic graphs

  • Patterns: Identify and create patterns using numbers, objects, and shapes. Understand patterns to help us predict and understand the world.

  • Encourage mathematical reasoning, asking questions like “How do you know?” or “Can you find another way?”
